Austin Grill celebrates its 15th Anniversary with a "Cinco de Mayo" Week
Brimming with Texas Fun

Washington, D.C.—From May 1st through May 5th, Austin Grill will showcase the best of Texas cuisine and libations at each of their six locations in honor of the restaurant's 15th Anniversary. A Prickly Pear Cactus Juice Margarita will be featured in a 16 oz. anniversary glass, as a take-home keepsake priced at $12 each. Austin Grill will also be giving away Commemorative 15th Anniversary T-shirts to guests that dine at any of the Austin Grill locations for the "Cinco de Mayo" party on Saturday, May 3rd.

Reunions are sweet, and from May 2nd through May 5th, former Austin Grill employees, better known as "Grillheads," have been invited back to help in the celebration and to mix and mingle with guests, friends, co-workers and staff as part of the anniversary plans. In addition, Amy Miller, owner of the Austin staple Amy's Ice Cream that supplies the Grills with its premium ice creams, will celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the nation's capital with a visit to each location and a special 15 year commemorative flavor available at all six Austin Grill locations through the month of May. While in D.C., Amy also plans to treat President Bush to his favorite ice cream flavor from back home, Pralines and Cream.

Additionally, the Austin Grill on 2400 Boston Street in Baltimore, Maryland will showcase live music from 12:00 noon until 11pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd and 4th. Alton Rex, an award winning songwriter from Austin, TX will appear on an outdoor stage performing Texas favorites while patrons enjoy al fresco dining and the Cinco de Mayo festivities. In addition, Baltimore favorites Rob Fahey, Al Walsh, Ed Lauer, and Frank Florence will be performing throughout the weekend.

"Austin Grill's Founder Rob Wilder established his first Grill in 1988, at 2404 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, with the intention of bringing the flavors, sights, sounds and culture of Austin, Texas to the nation's capital. Austin Grill is proud of its role as not only the local ambassador for Austin, TX, but also as the Embassy of the Lone Star State. Over the past 15 years, we have done much more than just serve Enchiladas and Margaritas. Austin Grill has made it a practice to bring a little piece of Texas to the East Coast by teaching staff and guests about the capital city through community outreach, sponsored travel programs, music contests, concert promotions, CD production, and numerous promotions designed to educate them about the culture of our favorite city, Austin, TX," says Chris Patterson, President and COO of Austin Grill.

Cinco de Mayo is significant as it marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. Although the Mexican army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. With this victory, Mexico demonstrated to the world that it was willing to defend itself against any foreign intervention. Especially those from imperialist states bent on world conquest.
